morning of the trial and was obviously lying.

The homicide being admitted I charged the

Jury that it was for the accused to satisfy them that

he and Keung Fan Lin were married, and that if he failed

so to satisfy them, the defence must fail. If, on the

other hand, they were satisfied that there was a marriage

they must further be satisfied that the accused found

In Chun and Keung au Lin in adultery and that the provoc-

ation as well as being grave was sudden.

It is sufficient for the moment to say that

there was no evidence that accused so found the murdered

couple, in fact the view at 2.30 in the morning into a

dark cubicle would be very little indeed, and there is

further, in the provision of the rope and knife and in

the obvious planning which the whole murder shows, ample

evidence of premeditation and design.

The jury were out for only eight minutes and

returned a unanimous verdict of guilty of murder, a verdict

with which I was in complete agreement.

The murder was brutal and calculated, and I sun

unable to make any recommendation to Your Excellency on

behalf of the condemned man.

A copy of my notes of evidence is forwarded

herewith. No shorthand note of the summing up was taken.

I have the honour to be,

His Excellency,

sir.

Your Excellency's most obedient servant
